So, Seattle was awesome. Hands down, my favorite city I have visited to thus far. I don’t know how to describe Seattle exactly, but I had good feelings while I was there. The city is surrounded by water, which keeps the temperatures low. It was perfect cardigan weather. Rachel and I sat on a huge hill for a while and just watched the boats sail by, the children play, and the dogs run freely. There is nothing like this in Springfield. Love Springfield, but Seattle just felt right. We got a pretty good taste of the city with the short amount of time we were provided. Rachel and I both agree we would buy a plane ticket and come back out in a heartbeat. It’s definitely worth exploring.
Our host for Seattle was a guy named Mike. We called him Seattle Mike. He lived in the Freemont neighborhood which was very nice and chill. His area seemed very easy going, which is typically something I dislike about city living. Mike was a really nice, hospitable guy. We met his friends, Greg and Amy, and they were equally nice. They are getting ready to go to this weeklong event in Nevada where you dress up in crazy costumes and just be yourself. So, they had planned to go look for costumes. Since Rachel and I only had a short amount of time, they suggested some things we should see and we went our separate ways. Mike even gave us a key to his apartment so we could come and go. I’m telling you guys, the amount of trust and understanding couchsurfing provides is unreal! We met up with Mike and Greg a few hours later and went to a place called the Tin Hat for Taco Tuesday. 69 cents, baby! After that we traveled to La Chupacabra, also known as the chup, to hang out. We exchanged stories and thoughts and then quizzed each other in trivial pursuit facts. While we were hanging out with 2 complete strangers, I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness. It is amazing what can happen when there are two parties are willing to conversate and become less of strangers and more of friends. While hanging out with the guys, I felt like we were old friends..the flow of everything was very natural. That is what is so wild about this project. You contact first through the internet, then through the phone, and then in person. By the time you get to the in person stage, you already feel comfortable. I think I am talking in circles about this now, but just know it’s been nothing short of amazing.
