Today Rachel, Kyle, Jeff, and I all arrived in Portland. The drive from Seattle was only 3 hours and it was just the break in driving that we needed. When we got here Rachel and I split up to meet our host, Sam. Sam, like all of our other hosts, is awesome. Totally nice, flexible, and free. He and his friends own a t-shirt company and every saturday and sunday they go to the market here and sell their shirts. They also converted this RV that they have to run on veggie oil, very cool! Sam had some things to do, so Rachel and I met back up with Kyle and Jeff. We went to this bookstore that takes up an entire city block, a record store, and a cool pizza place. We walked all around Portland and just when we decided to go back to Sam’s house for the night..Kyle calls and tells me his car blew up. I thought he was joking and didnt take him seriously, like any good friend would, but I eventually figured out it was no joke. Apparently the serpen..something or other belt fell off and his power steering and everything else went out. Who would’ve thought! His car landed in a two hour parking area and that was no bueno. So we did what any good, cheap, inexperienced person would do..we pushed his car to a safe parking spot. It was a hilarious act in itself and it broke up the tension of the current situation. So, the boys are out a car and they didnt have a place to say. Thankfully, Sam is letting the guys crash here for tonight and until they can get the car taken care of tomorrow morning. This is what I’m talking about..the insane amount of generosity and love for people that is apparent through couchsurfing.
Waking up at 7 every morning makes my bedtime 6 pm, so I am way overdue. Goodnight and…goodluck?
