The Road Within

a man named scott

The strangest thing happened to me on my last day in Portland. I was in a random thrift store, headed to the back for music and movies when I ran into a man named Scott. He saw I was coming and jumped out of my way. I told him we could both look at the same time and it wouldnt be a problem. He then extended his hand for a friendly handshake. He said “My name is Scott.” Naturally, I put my hand out and said “Hello Scott, my name is Abra.” This story wouldnt be a story at all if the next event didnt occur. But it did, so there is indeed a story. Scott shakes my hand and then bows down. He doesnt stop there. While bowing, he decides he is going to kiss my hand. Utterly shocked and caught off guard, I say something like “Wow, didnt see that one coming.” The only thing Scott had to say was, “Sometimes it’s good to show affection.” And the more I think about this mildly creepy experience, I think Scott might be right. Sometimes we just need to show a little affection.
