The Road Within

Ho’kay so, Rachel and I arrived in Hayward, which is just outside of San Fran, last night at about..ohh, 8 or 9. It’s hard to tell anymore. We met our host for the next two days, Cate. Cate is a 47 year old web developer that has somehow managed to snag a house in the city that resembles more of a farm house than a yuppie apartment. Very cool! Her house is very nice and open, literally! She has a great view of the city at night. She is super energetic and we talked for a couple hours before all three of us had to crash. Cate also has a big dog named Dolce. I am loving these dogs, people! Cate was very eager to get us out into the city and she set us up on a couple plans for the next day, which happens to be today.

So, Rachel and I set out this morning for Oakland. In Oakland we found the parking garage Cate told us about and then we walked to the ferry. The ferry ride was awesome! It is a lot colder to be by the water than I ever wouldve imagined. Being on the ferry reminded me of the time I told my parents I was going to go work on a cruise ship. They laughed at me, but I’m laughing now because the thought just ran through my head again. I cant shake it. Once we got off the ferry, we arrived at Fisherman’s Wharf aka all the Piers. There were tons of street vendors, trolly cars, boats, street performers, and shopping. We walked around for a bit and then decided to hop on a bus. We didnt know what bus or to where, we just did it. We eventually arrived in Union Square, which was another place Cate mentioned to us the night before. Union Square is where all the hot to trot name brands of shopping are. Since Rachel and I arent into that, we layed about the park there and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Of course, we walked around and around until Rachel’s feet smelled and I needed a cold beverage. With our great navigational skills, we found the bus we needed to take to get back to the Pier’s with ease. The bus rides were pretty smooth and not too terribly crowded. I will add that San Fran is huge..bigger than I had imagined and by far the biggest city we have been to. Since bigger isnt always better..you can catch our thoughts on the city. We made it back to the Pier’s and walked all about. We saw a card trick guy and a Michael Jackson impersonator. He was a terrible dancer and we found great joy in watching a small boy out dance him. Props, small boy! What else did we see..a man hiding behind two tree branches he probably chopped off of a palm tree and scaring people as they were walking by. Pretty hilarious. We got food and then cried over how expensive it was.
